Big Blue Sky was over five years in the making. Bill Liscomb had the idea to make Big Blue Sky in 2003, when he realized that his Super8 movie collection and boxes of hang gliding memorabilia would be an excellent start to telling a story that has not been told. Bill is a pioneer in the sport of hang gliding and personally experienced this story as it was unfolding. Bill’s mom was Bettina Gray, who became known world wide for her excellent hang gliding photographs, many of which adorned the covers of countless magazines.
”Making this movie was an amazing experience that enabled me to re-live my youth, and go over all the things that happened in the 70s with friends I flew with then. I wanted to make Big Blue Sky a movie for everyone, not just the hang gliding community. It is an incredible story. It is the story about the spirit of man, how we lived our dreams, the consequences of living our dreams, and how it changed our lives. It is a story about incredible people doing incredible things. Oh, by the way, you’ll also learn the history of hang gliding.“
